January 30 | God Cherishes Life
“But no one can tame the tongue; it is a restless evil and full of deadly poison.  With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the likeness of God.” James 3.8-9

Reading: James 3

We can talk a lot.  The average person speaks 18,000 words a day and this does not include what we write on social media outlets.  Most of what we do in life is with our words.  What we say is a big deal.  It matters to God.  Taming the tongue is a seemingly impossible task.  How quick we can be praising God and then speaking badly (or gossip) about those created in His image.  This contradiction in our relationship with God is hypocrisy.  This inconsistency can be changed by the Holy Spirit and God’s Word.

Prayer:  Lord, may the words of my mouth be pleasing to You, both in praise to You and when I speak of and to others.  May Your holy word fill my heart that from the overflow from my mouth would be words that are kind, encouraging and helpful to others.
