Isaiah: Stressed and Down? There is Hope!
Speaker: Jerry Witham Series: Isaiah: Hope Topic: Hope, Glory of God Passage: Isaiah 40:27–31
Has the last two years got you down at times or brought on times of loneliness. The pandemic has brought on some tough times for sure, but God gives us hope when it seems like all is gone. In Isaiah 40, we find the Israelites in despair, weary and stressed out. Much has changed since 37-39, in fact here in Isaiah 40, we find ourselves some 150 years later (6th century BC) and Judah is in captivity in Babylon and have been exiled for decades. God’s remnant is losing hope, growing weary and struggling in their belief of God. Would the Babylonian exile prove that God could not deliver His people or that He would not because they had been so sinful? Isaiah’s answer is a resounding no! The new historical situation did not signal a change in God or His plans. Rather it would show even more clearly than ever that God is sovereign, that people can trust in Him to deliver and that He is their great help in their weakness.
