Give Thanks To God

Speaker: Jerry Witham Series: Sacred Psalms Topic: Gratitude Passage: Psalm 136:1–26

Last week we begin looking at the book of psalms.  The psalms are a collection of prayers and songs.  They are honest, authentic and real.  What I personally love about The Psalms, is that they lead us through the peak and valleys of the human experience.  They deal with life’s ups and downs.  In those experiences we find prayers of joy and thanksgiving.  We find prayers for help and rescue.  Through it all the Psalms promote a steady discipline of praise to God, whether in the peak or in the valley of life.  This morning we find a psalm of praise to God that encourages us to thank God for who He is and for all that He has done.  We should be thankful.  That is one of the things that my family and I have talked about through the season we are in due to the pandemic our world is facing.  It has encouraged us to be thankful.  Thankfulness is vital and an essential guardian to our soul, it is an attitude and heart we should have and a discipline we should practice.  Let us be thankful to God.  That’s our focus today in Psalm 136.
