A Call to Serve When We are Fatigued

Speaker: David Bird Series: Live Free Topic: Mission Passage: Mark 6:33–44

Last week we talked about the blessing of rest and reconnection with Jesus. In Mark 6:30-32 God understands our need for rest and says, “Come with Me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” The key to rest is to be with Jesus and get in a quiet place.

Rest is not always vacation. Vacation can be tiring if you’re trying to see lots of things and get it all in. Rest is not slowing down and catching up on your favorite television shows or reading a book. Rest is being with Jesus in a quiet place. Jesus practiced this daily. Yet He understands seasons of hurriedness. His desire is for us to have rest. Rest is a blessing but sometimes gets interrupted by an unexpected and sometimes unwanted blessing.

Today in Mark 6:33-44 we will to discover the blessing of unexpected service even when we are fatigued! We are asked to serve God by serving others even when we are tired and in need of rest. The Kingdom is not about us and our fatigue or problems but others. God understands our need for rest but there are “sheep without a shepherd” and they trump our need for rest. Today we are going to hear Jesus say to all of us, “You give them something to eat.”
