The Church and Membership

It is an exciting time for the church in Carrollton.  Over the last four to five months we have been praying along with our brothers and sisters at Trinity Valley Church about the potential of our two local bodies becoming one.  On this Sunday, October 23, the potential of what could be is now becoming a reality.  King David proclaims in Psalm 133 saying, How good and pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity!  So, we will praise the Lord for what He is doing in our midst this Sunday as we gather together around Jesus. 

We want to be diligent as a people to not just be united physically in a place once a week, but to be united doctrinally, philosophically and relationally as we move forward together.  So, we will join together in a membership process.   The membership process will consist of four weeks of teaching to be held on Sundays, October 23 – November 13 at 9 am and 11 am during our worship gatherings.

Membership is important.  It is important because Jesus is committed to the church.  Jesus loves the church and gave His life for it.  The church is to be different.  In an age when people bounce from one thing to the next and never seem to commit to anything the church is to be different.  Church membership is stating that you want to be committed to God’s church through a local church.  It is also important to know who is on the team.  We need to know who the family members are and the membership process helps with that.  Christians also need community.  The Christian life lived alone is unbiblical.  We are called to be a people, a community and a family.  Being committed to a local church brings accountability, encouragement and growth.
