In the gospel of John, Jesus states that before Abraham was born, I am (John 8.58). Jesus’ statement is huge, stating that He is not only greater than Abraham, but that He is the eternal God. The phrase, I Am, is the name God used to reveal Himself to Moses (Exodus 3) and speaks of His eternal being. Jesus uses this term likewise to speak of Himself and the one, true eternal God. During Holy Week we will look at Jesus, as the I Am and specifically at five of His I Am statements that He uses throughout the gospel of John.
