January 28 | God Cherishes Life
“He will have compassion on the poor and needy, and the lives of the needy he will save.  He will rescue their life from oppression and violence, and their blood will be precious in his sight.”  Psalm 72.13-14

Reading: Psalm 72

God cherishes all life.  Here the Psalmist speaks of an earthly king and looks with future grace to the Messiah, Christ the Eternal King.  The earthly king was to be a defender of the weak and a sustaining force for the people.  He was to promote the good of the people and uphold justice for those oppressed, especially when it came to the strong oppressing the weak.  God is truly our King who performs such tasks as the upholder of life (Psalm 54:4), the preserver of life (Genesis 45:5), the keeper of life (Psalm 121:7), the fountain of life (Proverbs 14:27) and here in this Psalm the redeemer of life.

Prayer:  Lord, You truly cherish all life.  Help me to cherish the life of all just as You do.  Help me to have compassion on those who need help.  Thank you for Your redeeming love.
