December 24 or 25 | Our Savior Is Born
“For today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” Luke 2.11

Reading: Luke 2.1-20

Merry Christmas Ridge family.  We pray the joy of Christ fills your heart this Christmas, as you remember and reflect on His coming from heaven to earth for you.  Whether you read it on your own, with someone else or a room filled with friends and family take some time to read the below devotional this Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.

On this holy night, heaven pushes back the curtains on a world behind the scenes and an angel appears before these shepherds and the glory of God was shining around them.  The shepherds respond with overwhelming fear.  Would you not at such a scene?

The angel tells the shepherds to fear not and share a great announcement.  “I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people.”  The incarnation of Jesus, God taking on flesh is the gospel of abundant joy.  The message is that Jesus comes for all, but not all will respond to Him and therefore will not benefit from His gracious coming, but there is and will be a people who do respond to His grace by faith, believing that He is the Son of God, the Savior.

“For today in the city of David there has been born FOR YOU a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”  Here is the good news, the gospel of joy - in Bethlehem a Savior, who is Christ the Lord has been born.  This is the Savior, who is the Messiah, the Christ and He is Lord, meaning this is God, this is the master of all.  This is the Son of God who is Sovereign over all things, who has come to be the Savior to mankind.  He has come FOR YOU.  What an amazing word for the shepherds to here.  What an amazing word for us to hear.  God in the flesh, the Savior has been born, He has come from heaven to earth FOR YOU.

Prayer: Lord, let us stand in awe of Your coming into this world as a baby.  May we remember why you came. You came to be our Savior and to save us from our sins.  Thank you Jesus for coming, for dying and conquering the grave in Your resurrection, so that we could know You and have eternal life.  Thank you for coming from heaven to earth for me.
