Politics, Parasites, and Progress

Speaker: Scott Berthel Series: iWitness Topic: Discipleship Passage: Acts 12:20–25

Acts 12:20-25 features a window into an amazing moment of history as we see the demise of a powerful Roman political leader. The circumstances of his death are very public and very painful, and leave a political situation which allows the early church to experience another period of growth on a number of levels. Though we are removed from this story by two millennia and all the subsequent advances of mankind, the parallels to our world today are astounding: political maneuvering still captures our attention, parasites still claim lives, and our surrounding culture does not appear to be welcoming what God’s word has to say… and yet, this passage contains some deep words of wisdom and hope for followers of Jesus as we consider our place in this world.
