Jesus Builds His Church

Speaker: Jerry Witham Series: iWitness Topic: Church Passage: Acts 2:37–47

Acts 2.37-47: It has been said, “The kingdom of God is meant to be more like a river: a movement, an untamed surge of energy that can change a landscape and take people for the ride of their lives.” Our Scripture text for today could truly be summed up like that. And this is what happens when Jesus builds His church. Too often and we must be careful with this, we get caught up in the big numbers – three thousand baptized! That is awesome, but don’t get caught up in the amount. Get caught up in the lives changed and the change of the landscape. It could be just 12 lives changed or 120 and through them the landscape of a city changes. Oh wait, that is what happens. So, God is not into numbers, but lives and cities changing. That is what the kingdom of God is about. The important element that we cannot forget is Jesus. Jesus must be present for change to happen. That’s how he builds His church in its initial beginnings here in the first century and it is how He will continue to build the church today. Let’s see today how Jesus builds His church and pray for the same for today with us.
