A Call to Rest and Reconnect with Jesus

Speaker: David Bird Series: Live Free Topic: Prayer Passage: Mark 6:30–32

Have you ever worked so hard that you missed a meal or two? You had no time to stop. That’s the picture we see of Jesus and His disciples in Mark 6:30-23. They were exhausted from many factors and Jesus said, “Come away by yourselves to a lonely place and rest a while.” Wow, what a powerful summons from our Lord.

I’ll bet you can identify with these disciples. How many of you feel you are always behind on work projects and household duties? Kid’s activities always seem to morph into emergency situations. Too many nights we sit down wearied, frazzled, and worn out. Maybe we need to hear the words of Jesus, “Come away by yourselves to a lonely place and rest a while.”

We just finished a busy season here at The Ridge (collecting food and shoe boxes; finishing up LIVING FREE) and now we are about to head into an even busier season with Thanksgiving dinner and Advent Season coming. On top of this certain relatives may enter the picture!

Today and this week, we need to hear and obey these words of Jesus. They may sound impossible and impractical at first. “It can’t be done” you say. But repeat His words over and over again until you hear the desire in His voice to come rest and reconnect with Him. “Come away by yourselves to a lonely place and rest a while.”
