Malachi: Being Faithful

Speaker: Jerry Witham Series: Malachi: Return and Fear God Topic: Relationships Passage: Malachi 2:10–2:16

Over the last two weeks we have heard the Lord focus in on the priests and their sin. As we continue in chapter 2 today, we see the effects of the priests and people turning away from the truth of God’s Word. It is not good, as they are breaking trust in their relationships, marrying unbelievers and divorcing their wives. When there is a famine of the Word of God the sins being addressed today will no doubt rise to be a problem (Behold, days are coming, declares the Lord God, When I will send a famine on the land, not a famine for bread or a thirst for water, but rather for hearing the words of the Lord. Amos 8.11). When we don’t read, hear and live according to the Word of God we lose our ability to recognize sin, to recognize what is right and the lines between sin and righteousness begin to blur. Then like it does here in chapter 2, the luring of the world wins because there is no strength to stand against it. Today’s words are both personal and national to Israel. So, it is in our day as well. We must cling to the Word of God and resist the temptation of all three of these sins today. We must see the beauty there is in being faithful in our commitments and relationships. It truly honors the Lord and brings to us true and great joy.
