Sacred Psalms: Marriage is Easy
Series: Sacred Psalms Topic: Marriage Passage: Psalm 127:1–128:6
Doesn’t it make sense that over time we treat the people we love better not worse?
Hasn’t God given us a marriage partner to fulfill our life not create a burden?
If so, why isn’t marriage easy?
Psalm 128 is called the “Marriage Prayer” because it is sung at Jewish weddings. Marriage is supposed to be a blessing not constant work. Marriage was meant to be easy not labor intensive. Now I must admit that Martin Luther seemed to regard it differently, however. I hope he was being humorous when he called Psalm 128 a psalm of comfort for those who’ve experienced the “crosses” of married life! I’m not sure specifically what he had in mind!
Psalm 128 parallels and is a companion piece to Psalm 127. The two go together. I like how Charles Spurgeon put it. Psalm 127 is about how to build the house and Psalm 128 is about the joy of the finished product. Psalm 127 are the diagrams and architectural drawings while Psalm 128 is the enjoyment of a finished product.
Let’s dig into both Psalms and see what God has to say about all relationships and especially marriage.
