Sanctity of Life: Imitate God and Walk in Love
Speaker: Jerry Witham Series: Standalone Sermon, Not Part of a Series Topic: Abortion Passage: Ephesians 5:1–5:17
Today is what many evangelicals remember as Sanctity of Life Sunday. On January 22,1973 the decision in the landmark case of Roe v. Wade brought to our nation the legalization of abortions. The issue of abortion is not a political matter, nor is it a temporary matter. It is a matter of life and death. Jesus has authority over life and death. We see the great display and evidence of that in the resurrection. I love how Timothy Keller says, that because of the resurrection there’s infinite hope and reason to pour ourselves out for the needs of the world. Therefore, remaining silent and taking no action on the issue of abortion is not an option for Christians. Are message and action is never condemning though, but one of hope. We must upheld life; vindicate the weak and fatherless; do justice to the afflicted and destitute; rescue the weak and the needy. We also must hold out the message of grace, for it is not just about changed laws, but hearts changed.
