The Bee will take place on Wednesday, April 11 at 7:00 P.M. Parents and other family members are invited! Students, please register here if you plan to participate.

If you have any questions, please email George.

A list of all the verses can be found here.

Procedure

1          All students will form a line on stage with a microphone on a stand in the front.

2          Students will proceed from oldest to youngest.

3          The student will step up to the mic and be given a verse reference drawn from a hat.

4          If the student states the verse correctly, they may advance to the next round. Otherwise, they are eliminated.

5          After each student is given the opportunity to recite once, the round ends and the next round begins.

6          Rounds will continue until 3rd, 2nd, and 1st places have been determined.

7          In the runoff between 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, an elimination can only occur after a student commits an error and the next student successfully recites their verse (this might result in a tie between 2nd and 3rd, if the winner gets theirs correct and the other two don't in the same round).

8          The last student to correctly recite a verse when the other students have not is declared the winner.

Rules

1          Students are to recite entirely from memory without written or any other aid.

2          Students and the audience must not talk or disrupt the reciter during their turn.

3          In the first round, an answer will be judged "incorrect" if it fails to at least paraphrase the passage accurately.

4          In the second round, an answer will be judged "incorrect" if it fails to include exact wording of the verse, excluding minor words (articles, conjunctions, pronouns, etc.).

5          In the first two rounds, the contestant may request for the judge to begin the verse by reading the first three words of the passage.

6          In the third and subsequent rounds, an answer will be judged "incorrect" if it fails to include the exact wording of the verse.

7          Acceptable translations include NIV, ESV, and NASB.

8          There will be 3 judges chosen from the student ministry volunteer team.

9          Students must declare a preferred translation beforehand and stick to it throughout the contest.
