Bible Reading: Romans 8.9-11

However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Him. If Christ is in you, though the body is dead because of sin, yet the spirit is alive because of righteousness. But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. Romans 8.9-11

From time to time we doubt and worry about our salvation, due to guilt from our sin or life events, based on the way we feel. As we see in the text here, a Christian is anyone who has the spirit of God living in him or her. The truth is that if you have sincerely trusted Christ for your salvation and trusted Him as Lord, then you are a Christian. Like many parts of the Christian life, we are called to reflect on the truth and not base our thinking and behavior on the way we feel.

Our feelings can definitely be misleading and the devil, of course, wants us to battle with the feeling of not being saved when we truly have been saved. We know the Holy Spirit lives in us based on the truth of God’s Word that He has promised. It is only God that can change our minds and convict us to follow Him and to live a life that honors Him as well.

When the Holy Spirit is working in our lives we will notice a difference! It does not mean we are perfect, but we will begin to act as Christ directs. We will be able to see Him in our prayer life knowing that He wants to help us with our daily problems – ask Him! We will also have the strength to carry out His plan and purpose throughout the day.

The Holy Spirit is a gift to those who believe in Christ guaranteeing eternal life. If you do not believe, God wants you to have that same gift. He wants the Holy Spirit to work in you and for you to believe that Jesus Christ’s is God’s Son and eternal life only comes through Him. So whether you are a believer or still thinking about it, God is asking for you to trust Him today!
