Bible Reading: Psalm 119.73-80

Psalm 119:73-80

73Your hands made me and fashioned me;
Give me understanding, that I may learn Your commandments.
74 May those who fear You see me and be glad,
Because I wait for Your word.
75 I know, O Lord, that Your judgments are righteous,
And that in faithfulness You have afflicted me.
76 O may Your lovingkindness comfort me,
According to Your word to Your servant.
77 May Your compassion come to me that I may live,
For Your law is my delight.
78 May the arrogant be ashamed, for they subvert me with a lie;
But I shall meditate on Your precepts.
79 May those who fear You turn to me,
Even those who know Your testimonies.
80 May my heart be blameless in Your statutes,
So that I will not be ashamed.

Have you ever purchased a new electronic device or appliance, and immediately set aside the owner’s manual and attempted to operate it?  I do that all the time.  But later, when all else fails, I start over and read the owner’s manual word for word until the device works properly according to the designer’s instructions.

In this section of Psalm 119, we are reminded that God is our creator.  He formed us with His own hands while still in our mother’s womb (vs. 73).   Because He loves us, He has given us an owner’s manual, the word of God to teach us how to live.   Those who pay close attention to every word of scripture, and wait for His guidance (vs. 74) understand the ways of God.  We learn to accept His correction as a demonstration of His love and faithfulness (vs. 75).   As we delight ourselves in His word and follow God’s principles, we experience an abundant, happy life (vs. 77).

Lord, help us to spend time with you each day and to meditate on Your word so we too are not ashamed.   Thank you for giving us an owner’s guide that shows us how we can know You personally, and experience the abundance of eternal life, starting right here and now.
