Bible Reading: 2 Samuel 12.24-25

2 Samuel 12.24-25
Then David comforted his wife Bathsheba, and went in to her and lay with her; and she gave birth to a son, and he named him Solomon. Now the Lord loved him 25 and sent word through Nathan the prophet, and he named him Jedidiah for the Lord’s sake.

I love the simplicity of the words of this hymn that speaks of God’s grace,

Grace, grace, God’s grace,
Grace that will pardon and cleanse within;
Grace, grace, God’s grace,
Grace that is greater than all our sin!

Grace is great than all our sin.  Praise the Lord for that!  We see that here with David and his wife Bathsheba.  After losing their child due to their sin, God now grants them a son.  His name is Solomon and his name comes from the Hebrew word shalom, peace).  This was truly God’s blessing.  Solomon’s other name is Jedidiah, which means beloved of Yahweh.  It seems possible that the first name, Solomon, was a throne name that David gave his son in anticipation of him reigning as king.  It also seems to indicate that David felt that God was at peace with him now.  The fact that God allows Solomon to be born and live is God’s great grace to David.

God’s grace is the only way we can have peace with God.  He made that peace possible through Jesus Christ.  Those who believe in Jesus Christ as their Savior can know the peace of God and have their sins forgiven.  As Christians though we still can fall into the trap of temptation and sin.  God’s grace is for us every day.  When you sin, confess that sin to the Lord and He is faithful and just to forgive your sins.  Then by His strength through the Holy Spirit bear fruits of repentance living out God’s will.

God’s grace is great than all our sin!
